Germany: Bundestag adopts new sexual assault Law

The German Bundestag has adopted the a new criminal law regarding sexual assault at the beginning of the month . Accordingly, a sexual act will in the future also be considered as a rape if the victim does not actively defend itself. A crime is therefore also deemed to exist if the victim brings through words or gestures to express that it does not agree with the sexual acts. This principle of ” No means No ” was unanimously adopted by all 601 votes .

The consent of the Bundesrat is still required for the new law to enter into force. A vote on the matter is expected in late September.
